Beauty Queens - Libba Bray//REVIEWED

Photobucket
Genre; Young Adult

Synopsis

The fifty contestants in the Miss Teen Dream pageant thought this was going to be a fun trip to the beach, where they could parade in their state-appropriate costumes and compete in front of the cameras. But sadly, their airplane had another idea, crashing on a desert island and leaving the survivors stranded with little food, little water, and practically no eyeliner. What's a beauty queen to do? Continue to practice for the talent portion of the program - or wrestle snakes to the ground? Get a perfect tan - or learn to run wild? And what should happen when the sexy pirates show up? Welcome to the heart of non-exfoliated darkness. Your tour guide? None other than Libba Bray, the hilarious, sensational, Printz Award-winning author of A Great and Terrible Beauty and Going Bovine. The result is a novel that will make you laugh, make you think, and make you never see beauty the same way again.

Review
I started to read this book on a whim, with some similarities drawn from lord of the flies by other bloggers i decided to delve in. Overall - i loved this. The writing style was fanatasic, the book was written almost like a tv show with commerical breaks and words from the sponsors. The book tells the story of a group of miss teen dreams stuck on an island after their plane crashes and leaves them to fend for themselves. Huge similairites to lord of the flies to an extant but with an actual story underlying it too. Maybe there was some symbolism, but on the surface it was enjoyable.

  3. I couldn't decide if I wanted to read this one as I'd been left sort of blah by Bray's other book, A Great and Terrible Beauty. However, I think you might have convinced me to at least pick it up out of the library! I hadn't heard that it had similarities to Lord of the Flies, so that will definitely be a reason for me to give it a look! xx
