City Of Bones - Cassandra Clare

Genre - Fantasy/Young Adult
When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder -- much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It's hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing -- not even a smear of blood -- to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy?

This is Clary's first meeting with the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. It's also her first encounter with Jace, a Shadowhunter who looks a little like an angel and acts a lot like a jerk. Within twenty-four hours Clary is pulled into Jace's world with a vengeance, when her mother disappears and Clary herself is attacked by a demon. But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know. . . .

Exotic and gritty, exhilarating and utterly gripping, Cassandra Clare's ferociously entertaining fantasy takes readers on a wild ride that they will never want to end

This book left alot to be desired for me. I kind of finished it and thought, right, i have finished it - now what? No urge to find out where it goes. In sections i found this gripping and a well described world, othertimes i felt it was lacking something. Now i am fully aware that, as a reader this is a genre i opt away from. But when something is hyped i have to read it. So - the charactes are fairly well written and if you did love this genre, i can imagine this been a truely fantastic book. I will give the rest of the series ago, and maybe it will draw me in? Who knows.
5/10 - middle of the road for me

  1. Aw...I hate you didn't love it! The ending threw me for such a loop the first time I read this that I was torn between wanting to find out what happens and being not sure I wanted to keep reading. But I did and I really enjoyed this series and the spin off series, The Infernal Devices. Sorry you weren't loving it.

  2. I'm reading this book right now, actually! Not sure what I think of it yet. Usually I really like YA books, but this one has been a bit slow going for me. I'll keep at it though and at least finish this one before I make a decision on it! xx
