Tears of Tess (Monsters in the Dark #1) by Pepper Winters

A New Adult Dark Contemporary Romance, not suitable for people sensitive to grief, slavery, and nonconsensual sex. A story about finding love in the strangest of places, a will of iron that grows from necessity, and forgiveness that may not be enough.

“My life was complete. Happy, content, everything neat and perfect.
Then it all changed.
I was sold.”

Tess Snow has everything she ever wanted: one more semester before a career in property development, a loving boyfriend, and a future dazzling bright with possibility.

For their two year anniversary, Brax surprises Tess with a romantic trip to Mexico. Sandy beaches, delicious cocktails, and soul-connecting sex set the mood for a wonderful holiday. With a full heart, and looking forward to a passion filled week, Tess is on top of the world.

But lusty paradise is shattered.

Kidnapped. Drugged. Stolen. Tess is forced into a world full of darkness and terror.

Captive and alone with no savior, no lover, no faith, no future, Tess evolves from terrified girl to fierce fighter. But no matter her strength, it can’t save her from the horror of being sold.

Can Brax find Tess before she’s broken and ruined, or will Tess’s new owner change her life forever?

Boy, where do i even start on this book, im reviewing about 5 minutes after finishing it. I still feel emotinally drained from this book, but i think its in a good way. I have wanted to read captive in the dark for a long time but i spied this on netgalley and it seemed a softer version and the perfect way to ease into the darker genre. So, we meet Tess who is just about to go on holiday with her long term boyfriend Brax, for her its all about getting on the same plate with the sex, armed with new underwear and some other things she sets about trying to spice things up. The next day shes kidnapped, drugged and stolen, but Tess is strong, eventually she is sold and moved to her new Masters home. Q, well where do i start with him, he's a hard one to work out, a stubborn beautiful french man, with good intentions at heart, always good intentions. When Tess comes spitting through the door, everything for the both of them changes.
The emotions i felt whilst i tumbled through this book was so varied, complicated and left me reeling. However, it was done so well, it was dark yes, but in the next sentence it was passionate and raw and thats why i enjoyed it, it took the darkness away and turned it into something that was always meant to be, all along. So i will leave you with this;

"I fully believed i was made for him and he was made for me. Two halves of the same fucked-upness.Two souls from the same twisted desires, unable to fully be free until we found each other"
