Finding Grace - K.L Slater || Netgalley Review

This morning, my daughter sat right here, munching her breakfast, too excited to finish it. Now, she is missing.

The day after her ninth birthday, Lucie and Blake Sullivan agree, for the very first time, to let their daughter, Grace, make the four-minute walk back home alone from a friend’s house just down the street.

They joke with friends about hiding behind bushes to ensure she is safe. But the joke turns sour when Grace does not appear.

Despite the best efforts of the police and local community, Grace seems to have vanished into thin air. With hope fading fast, Lucie knows she can rely on her husband to support her through such dark times. That is until the day she makes a shocking discovery, hidden in Blake’s desk, and suddenly she begins to doubt everything she knew about the man she married.

But Lucie harbours a terrible secret of her own. One that she has never shared with anyone, even Blake … And as the search for Grace reaches fever pitch, Lucie receives a terrifying message. If she is ever to see Grace again, Lucie has no choice but to face the past she tried hard to bury forever. And she must do it alone.

I have read a fair bit by K.L Slater now and i know if i am after a gripping thriller then i know that is what i will get.

Lucie and her husband Blake agree that newly 9 year old Grace can walk home for the first time from her best friends house. Obviously the parents had agreed one would watch as she left, and Blake would watch from their own house, she would never be out of sight. Expect - Blake has an accident, and she is out of sight, and now Grace is missing. The same Grace who had sat eating breakfast bursting with excitement.

Despite the community and police getting involved, no one seems to know where she is. Surely there has to be a reason. As Lucie starts to investigate around her own home she finds Blake is keeping a massive secret from her and this could be the reason that Grace is now missing. Everything Lucie thought she knew about her husband is suddenly changed. Yet, Blake isn't the only with a secret. Lucie has been keeping something from Blake from the minute she met him and this could carry serious consequences.

I really loved this book, it was so tense. Told over time, we follow the day in the lead up to Grace going missing, how she celebrated her birthday and those around her. We then continue on looking at the immediate time frame after the incident. Interspersed throughout we re visit Lucie's past. Her time at university.

However - we get a glimpse of the horror that is to come and this quote below is exactly that, so we know there is more to Lucie than her perfect life.
"It's been hell to get so close and keep so quiet, but i knew i had to wait. I wasn't sure what for; I just knew there would come a time, an opportunity to set things straight, remind her of the awful truth she's tried so hard to bury"
As we travel through the journey of the narrative, the reader gets chance to piece together what has happened and this is where this book excelled for me. At first impressions, i had it all figured out, i knew what had lead to all the situations but i was wrong. I was so wrong. Even when things started to become clearer - there was still more to come. Slater has a way of gripping the reader in, making them feel all the tension, stress and worry.

The characters are well constructed and have depth to them that means the reader wants to discover more about them and their lives. The description of the scenes really allows for the reader to picture themselves their watching the drama unfold, i certainly felt like i was sat on the sofa in the living room with tea watching it before my eyes.

We come to an epic conclusion and i felt my blood pressure shoot up as we are drawn into the turmoil.  Finding Grace was a brilliant thriller that kept me engrossed and allowed me to loose myself in the pages. A dark read that is prefect for seasoned thriller lovers.

This was gifted as an e-arc for an honest review and no way impacts my thoughts, i was already a big fan of the author.
