Two broke strangers.
Two broken hearts.
Two happily-ever-afters for the price of one?
Isla and Leigh are starting to think love is not worth it.
Until they both see an ad in the gazette for a new dating service, which vows to help skint singles ‘find love for free’ while giving back to the community. The dates on offer range from the classic meet cute (dog walking) to the less-than-cute (litter picking)… but when Isla is matched with Leigh, she’s surprised by how quickly sparks begin to fly.
Being a cheap date is nothing to be ashamed of. But will the price of Leigh’s past heartbreak – or a suave rival offering Isla a more lavish lifestyle – keep them apart? Sometimes, even low-cost romance is high stakes…
On my mission to improve my netgalley ratio i was browsing my back catalogue and spotted this hidden gem which looked like the perfect palate cleanser with a lovely little premise and it captured my attention straight away (there was clearly a reason i requested this!)
From the get go, i was greeted with two really likeable character - Isla and Leigh, who both had their issues surrounding love and relationships and first dates. Especially as get a glimpse of Isla on a very horrific one to start the story of. Isla is the sort of character i love in these books, kind, funny, a little bit quirky and usually lacks a bit of self worth but truly cared for by all those who know her.
Leigh was just burying his head in the sand a bit about his past relationship was impacting his life.
After the pair spotted an advert for cheap dates, they both took a leap and the "matchmakers" set them up. I loved wathcing the couple go on a few first dates but as all readers know, a spanner in the works was coming with miscommunication and life complications to throw the narrative of. Whilst i could see it was coming (things just seemed too smooth) it did not throw me off, nor did it impact the story, it just made me eager to find out the outcome as i was rooting so much for Isla and Leigh. However - could the glimpse of a more upmarket lifestyle whisk her away? Could Leighs past hold him back?
Like i said, from the get go this ticked many boxes for me and it was a refreshing, light hearted read that was a perfect palette cleanser. The characters were likeable, enjoyable and relatable, the sort of people you would be friends with or meet out and about.
