When She Returned - Lucinda Berry

One woman’s reappearance throws her family into turmoil, exposing dark secrets and the hidden, often devastating truth of family relationships.<

Kate Bennett vanished from a parking lot eleven years ago, leaving behind her husband and young daughter. When she shows up at a Montana gas station, clutching an infant and screaming for help, investigators believe she may have been abducted by a cult.

Kate’s return flips her family’s world upside down—her husband is remarried, and her daughter barely remembers her. Kate herself doesn’t look or act like she did before.

While the family tries to help Kate reintegrate into society, they discover truths they’ve been hiding from each other about their own relationships. But they aren’t the only ones with secrets. As the family unravels what happened to Kate, a series of shocking revelations shows that Kate’s return is more sinister than any of them could have imagined.

I have read a few Lucinda Berry books now and absolutely freaking love them, how this went under my radar i don't know. For the longest time i have been fascinated with cults and when a tiktok video showed cult books i downloaded this straight away and boy am i so glad i did.

Kate vanishes from the parking lot one day, no trace of her - leaving behind her purse, her car, her husband and her baby. No one ever got answers, she was presumed dead and that was that so when one day out the blue, she just turns up a lot of questions need asking.

After alot of tests and initial questioning Kate returns home and starts about reintegrating into society, we follow the narrative as we learn what actually happened to her for all those years, why she is back and so much more. This was so clever and brilliant, it was fast paced, dramatic and just phenomenal.

Cleverly told in a way that you really don't see it coming, it really does draw you in and you start to really support all those involved. It really delves into the worlds of cults, how they operate, how those on the outside see them (in fairness im no expert ive just watched alot of documentaries and YouTube videos)  Lucinda really does write so brilliantly, her books stick with you long after youtube finished and i am so ready to keep on with her back list.
