Camp Boyfriend - J.K.Rock || Netgalley Review

The summer of her dreams is about to get a reality check.

They said it couldn't be done, but geeky sophomore Lauren Carlson transformed herself into a popular girl after moving to a new school halfway across the country. Amazing what losing her braces and going out for cheerleading will do. Only trouble is, the popular crowd is wearing on Lauren's nerves and she can't wait to return to summer camp where she's valued for her brain instead of her handsprings. She misses her old friends and most of all, her long time camp-only boyfriend, Seth. This year she intends to upgrade their relationship to year-round status once she's broken up with her new, jock boyfriend, Matt. He doesn't even begin to know the real her, a girl fascinated by the night sky who dreams of discovering new planets and galaxies.

 But Matt isn't giving her up without a fight. As he makes his case to stay together, Lauren begins to realize his feelings run deeper than she ever would have guessed. What if the guy she thought she was meant to be with forever isn't really The One? Returning to Camp Juniper Point was supposed to ground her uprooted life, but she's more adrift than ever. Everything feels different and soon Lauren's friends are turning on her and both guys question what she really wants. As summer tensions escalate, Lauren wonders if she's changed more than she thought. Will her first big discovery be herself?

Review

This has being on my netgalley since about 2013, i requested it back around when i started blogging, i never got round to it. With my recent blog post about picking my read off my TBR this was picked as my read.

Firstly, my reading tastes have def changed, and this is something i wouldn't request if it was about now. I dont think i am the target reading market for this, this is most certainly a teen read. I am not a teen nor am i great at enjoying teen reads because i just feel they are too young. That is not a criticism on the authors, its just not for me.

That aside, we meet Lauren who has been counting down to summer camp where she can break away from school- the new image that has being created for her and get back to being her true self, the science geek, goofing around wearing comfy clothes and not caring what others around her think. A chance to get back to her Summer boyfriend and leave her school one behind, only she doesnt - he decides to come to camp with her *eyeroll*

So, here is Lauren - now a cheerleader with a jock boyfriend trying to chill with the science geeks. An ex who she wants to be with, but a jock she also wants to be with - drama...well teenage drama. Most of the time i wanted to shake her, i felt one minute she wanted one, then the other then time to find herself and i just was frustrated. However, i have to remember - i am not that age, nor am i going through that drama, so i couldnt relate and from the outside its easy to criticise.

I didnt particularity like many of the characters - I liked Lauren most and because i knew she had good intentions at heart, despite her flaws i did feel she was doing what she thought was right at the time. I felt her friends were not the best either, very quick to judge and make assumptions and i felt in parts stubborn.

However - i think this was a sweet read about first loves and if i was a teen reader this would be a great fun summer read, and there isnt really anything wrong with the read at all - i just think this is not me, and its a shame - so i wont be reading Camp Payback (another book in the series) however, i have read other work by the authors and i do enjoy them so i will read other things!
