She finally has her dream life. But someone knows the truth . . .
Emilia Ward lives quietly in suburban London with her husband and two children.
Just an ordinary wife and mother. But also a bestselling crime writer.
When she starts writing her tenth Detective Miranda Moody novel, however, life takes a frightening an incident straight out of one of her novels occurs in real life.
Just an unsettling coincidence, she thinks. Until it happens again.
Then someone she knows dies exactly like a victim in the book she's still writing . . .

Why is someone doing this? How do they know what she is writing? And how long before Emilia and her family are next?
Im sure you may have seen me mention on X that i am really trying to bring my netgalley review rate up, so i started with this - so thanks to netgalley for my copy.
I have not read any Claire Douglas before but i know she is well loved and i know my mum is an avid fan (our reading tastes often align so i was super excited about this one) I went into quite blind and also not knowing much about the authors writing style.
Emilia Ward lives with her husband and children, she is a famous crime writer and life seems pretty perfect for her. She has just started her final crime novel in a series and is excited about what the future holds for her as an author. One day she is travelling home and she experiences a fluke incident like something right out of her novels. She gets home, slightly shaken but carries on her week. However, things start to seem less like a coincidence as more things start to crop up, things that start to happen out of her newest novel that isn't even finished yet.
I really enjoyed this, i found it very character driven and its been a while since i have read anything like that as i find it often slows the pace down but works brilliantly. I really found the premise gripping and i loved trying to work out the narrative, and as a reader - i really couldn't figure out what was happening and why. It wasn't "twisty and turny" more "mystery and questioning" if that makes sense.
I enjoyed getting to know Emilias family and friends, especially in this sort of read where everyone soon becomes a suspect. I also loved that because it was so character driven we got more depth to them than i excepted learning alot of their back stories
It was told in a unique way of extracts of the Miranda Moody, someones previous life and current day which all started to merge and leave the reader questioning what's coming. Which makes it gripping and keeps you turning the page until the end. It was brilliantly told and crafted so well.
Claire Douglas always wanted to write novels and, after many years of trying to get published, her dream came true when she won the Marie Claire Debut Novel Award in 2013 with THE SISTERS.
Her second and third novels, LOCAL GIRL MISSING and LAST SEEN ALIVE (Penguin), are Sunday Times bestsellers.
