Veronica McCreedy is about to have the journey of a lifetime . . .
Veronica McCreedy lives in a mansion by the sea. She loves a nice cup of Darjeeling tea whilst watching a good wildlife documentary. And she’s never seen without her ruby-red lipstick.
Although these days Veronica is rarely seen by anyone because, at 85, her days are spent mostly at home, alone. She can be found either collecting litter from the beach (‘people who litter the countryside should be shot’), trying to locate her glasses (‘someone must have moved them’) or shouting instructions to her assistant, Eileen (‘Eileen, door!’).
Veronica doesn’t have family or friends nearby. Not that she knows about, anyway . . .
And she has no idea where she’s going to leave her considerable wealth when she dies. But today . . .
today Veronica is going to make a decision that will change all of this.

Review
*Gifted for blog tour review*
Apologies once more for the delay for the review on this one.
In a time where its all a bit scary and worrying out there, books have certainly become a form of escapism. This was perfect for that.
Veronica is set in her ways now, she can be found clearing coastal paths of litter, drinking her tea or asking Eileen to shut the doors. She is strong willed and when her mind is set on something there is very little anyone else can do to change that,so when after seeing a program she decides to head to Antarctica to visit the penguins no one can convince her she cant, even at 85.
On her journey to change her life she discovers she isnt actually alone in the world. Away with the penguins is a beautiful uplifting read, it was delightful and getting discover the penguins was fantastic. (On that note - you can live stream zoo webcams to see penguins and it is wonderful if you want to feel like your surrounded as you read the book)
I loved the way the narrative panned out, following different points of view and glimpses into to Veronica's past as we start to discover her life and what made her the way she is.
If you are after something to take you away from the tough reality's of life right now, this couldnt be a better read.
