Roses are Red is a gripping psychological thriller that will keep you up until the early hours. Perfect for fans of K. L. Slater, Teresa Driscoll, and Andrew Hart.
This is the first book i have read by Miranda but when i when i saw a shoutout on twitter for bloggers who like thrillers i was straight in there.
Lydia at first glance has it all, she has the perfect home, a loving husband and a thriving business in the market that she adores. However with most things, all is not as it seems.
Behind closed doors not all is as it seems only days from divorce - Adam dies. Which in itself is horrific enough for all the family but when its not as clear cut as it first seems there is alot of stress hanging over the family. However - Lydia is trying to find happiness in these dark times and when after a few months she starts internet dating and meets Patrick. She ends up caught in a whirlwind romance.
Things take a more serious turn with a murder investigation, her business failing and her family falling apart. Yet Patrick is there to help and support her, especially as it seems as though someone wants more from her. So - lets discuss this read, i enjoyed it - it was fast paced, with so much drama packed into the read itself. I felt so much happened throughout the book.
I really enjoyed the drama of the read and whilst i wasn't the biggest fan of Lydia at times i did feel for her. I found her to be insecure and seeking constant reassurance but i suppose with everything that was happening i would certainly be the same. I found some of her decisions to me seemed naive but then again - she hasn't had much life experience (at least on the dating front it seems)
I think her grief certainly impacted alot of the decisions she seemed to make moving forward with her life. I found the cast of characters around her all seemed to be on a charm offensive in an attempt to get her to like them despite having been friends for a while it seemed. This was a dark twisty read and occasionally i guessed what was going on but for the life of me i couldn't figure out why it was happening. This aspect i enjoyed. I felt gripped as a reader and wanted to continue to find answers.
I rated this 3/5 a really promising read with a great plot. Fast paced and enjoyable. I was gifted an e-arc for the blog tour but this is reviewed through choice and my own opinion.
