An Anonymous Girl - Greer Hendricks & Sarah Pekkanen

The next novel of psychological suspense and obsession from the authors of the blockbuster bestseller The Wife Between Us.

Seeking women ages 18–32 to participate in a study on ethics and morality. Generous compensation. Anonymity guaranteed.

When Jessica Farris signs up for a psychology study conducted by the mysterious Dr. Shields, she thinks all she’ll have to do is answer a few questions, collect her money, and leave.

Question #1: Could you tell a lie without feeling guilt? But as the questions grow more and more intense and invasive and the sessions become outings where Jess is told what to wear and how to act, she begins to feel as though Dr. Shields may know what she’s thinking… and what she’s hiding.

Question #2: Have you ever deeply hurt someone you care about?
As Jess’s paranoia grows, it becomes clear that she can no longer trust what in her life is real, and what is one of Dr. Shields’ manipulative experiments. Caught in a web of deceit and jealousy, Jess quickly learns that some obsessions can be deadly.

Question #3: Should a punishment always fit the crime?

From the authors of the blockbuster bestseller The Wife Between Us comes an electrifying new novel about doubt, passion, and just how much you can trust someone.

Review

When Jessica – a makeup artist over hears one of her clients talking about a survey she was planning on skipping the next day. She simply couldnt be bothered, but what Jessica hears is the pay. That pay could solve a lot of her problems right now. So, on a whim she picks up her clients phone and notes down the details, she could go in her place.

Jessica arrives the next day to find she is taking part in a study on ethics and morailty. A handsome sum for answering a few questions, when it is agreed she can take part – it begins. Jessica simply becomes Subject 52.

As the research project continues, its changes and Dr Shields (who is running the research) decides the project needs to change and she would like to meet Jessica. Jessica finds herself revealing her inner most thoughts and secrets that she has carried with her. She finds herself questioning her ethics and morals from the minute the first part of the survey is over.

Dr Shields is something else entirely She is calm, professional, logical and methodical. Her research leads her to question a lot of things, mainly the focus on cheating – in the sense – can a leapoard change its spots? Whilst Jessica is bound by confidentially surely Dr Sheilds is too?

An Anonymous Girl is the second book I have read by the duo and it was phenomenal. I always worry when its two authors about how it is going to work for the reader but this pair write in a way that grips you from the first instant to the very last page. It was dark, disturbing and downright unforgetable. How they even came up with this narrative I have no idea. What I do know is this is one of the best books I have read.

Jessica is a likeable character, a bit frantic in parts through life stress, a good heart and whilst she begins to question herself I feel like sometimes she didnt need too. Dr Shields is wonderful, she is the sort of business woman a lot of people aspire too, with her fancy house – a loving husband and her life is sorted. We also meet Dr Sheilds husband, a few love interests of Jessica and surrounding family members as backing characters. All of these help piece together the lives of Jessica and Dr Shields.

This is unlike anything else I have ever read and I would totally tell you all to go buy and read it. Find the answers to these questions!
