In the close-knit community of Carrenporth in Cornwall everyone knows everyone else’s business.
Luke Carrack is only too aware of this. He’s been away for two years but nothing has changed – from the town gossips who can’t see past the scandal of his childhood, to the cold way he is treated by some of his so-called family. The only person who seems to understand is local hotelier’s daughter Cat Trevelyan, although even Luke’s new friendship with her could set tongues wagging.
But Carrenporth is about to experience far bigger scandals than the return of Luke Carrack – and the secrets unearthed in the process will shake the sleepy seaside town to its core …

Review
I really was not expecting this book, i mean - i had such preconceptions of the narrative that when it took all its twists and turns i was shocked. We meet Cat who is the events organiser at the biggest hotel in the area, a family run venue and Luke who after time away travelling has just returned to the area.
The pair get off to such a rocky start that as a reader i was not really rooting for them, i felt they were clashing but as i got to know the pair and the pair got to know each other - it becomes clear that this is a pair meant to be together.
However, it is not as clear cut as that, and with everyone knowing everyones business and alot of gossip being thrown around - can this pair make it work? Just as things seem to be settling down, the area is hit with the biggest shock, what follows is a clever and interwoven mystery. I had guessed what had happened, but i was wrong, and i was left a bit shaken.
I enjoyed this, i found it had just the right amount of drama/tension/thriller to keep me entertained but the right amount of small town romance feel that it ticked that box too. I sometimes found bits a bit wordy, but that being said - i felt it set scenes and built characters well so i think it worked for that.Overall, this was a good read - i would certainly read more from the author going forward
