Well, this was a twisty turny read if ever i read one. It was a thrilling read from start to end.
Marie makes a promise to her best friend Nina in her last days that she will look after Ninas family. That is exactly what she does, even if its overstepping the mark sometimes, she knows she is doing it for the good of the grieving family. However, in her bid to learn more about Nina - she discovers a secret that leads to confronting the past, and well - alot more secrets are soon uncovered.
This is such a tense ride of a read,I adored it. I found Marie really hard to like, but i think its because i was never sure of her motives but that made her so so compelling to read and a fantastic main character for those reasons. I was intrigued by Nina as we only learnt snippets from Marie regarding the past. As more characters come into play i was worried i would loose track but i didnt, because each one had a unique part to play in the narrative.
The writing style was fast paced and i felt like every time i picked it up, i had soon lost my self in a good chunk of the book, it really didnt take long to fly through. I really think Karen has created another wonderful read that in parts is down right creepy, edge of your seat and tense. Its not a relaxing bath time read instead its a wonderful thriller that if you want something to stick your teeth into - this is the one for you.
Don't trust everyone, suspect everyones motives and pay attention to the small details. Thats my advice for this, it was wonderful!
I was gifted a paperback arc for the blog tour, it hasnt impacted my review and you can pick up a copy here
Karen Hamilton spent her childhood in Angola, Zimbabwe, Belgium and Italy, and developed a love of travel through moving around so much. This led her to a career as a flight attendant, and it was in the air that she thought of the idea for her debut thriller The Perfect Girlfriend. Karen is a recent graduate of the Faber Academy, and has now put down roots in Hampshire to raise her young family with her husband. The Perfect Girlfriend was a Sunday Times Top Ten bestseller in paperback. The Last Wife is her hotly anticipated second novel.
